Almost identical positions, almost identical cloud cover, and very likely about the identical day of the month!!

Waipio Valley…

Pictures from our visit to Waipio Valley in the southeast corner of North Kohola.  The road to the bottom of the valley is one lane gravel, four wheel drive required (no all wheel drives allowed), rides along the cliff edge and is very steep, about a 25% grade. (That’s 25 feet down for every 100 feet forward!!)  After the drive on Maui, we stayed up at the overlook.  There are about 50 native Hawaiian residents in the valley full-time. In 1946, a devastating Tsunami wiped out most of the valley….

First Day in the Big Island….

Good morning from Keauhou Bay, just south of Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.  This is our first full day, so we will just have to see where we end up today.  I ask thinking about a drive down to South Point, the southern most point in the 50 United States….  But, maybe something else….

Running a couple hours late this morning, even though I have been up since 6:30am HST.  Still some surf out there, but not like last night during high tide…  The best was around 11:00pm-midnight, but too dark to take pictures….

Crashing Surf from Our Balcony

This series of eight photos over about 4-5 seconds shows the crashing surf just about 150 feet outside our room’s balcony.  It is only going to get better the next 24-36 hours with a high surf warning 🙂

Sheraton Kona Resort @ Keauhou Bay…

This will be our home for the next five nights. We have s beautiful oceanfront room that is looking right down on the building surf. We have s Hugh surf earning from now until Saturday with 6-10 foot swells expected from the south. We don’t directly face the south, but the black lava cliffs outside the room should make for a good show with what surf we do get….
