Spouting Horn in Poipu

Even though this was the lunar high tide for this trip, the lack of any wave action limited the activity at Spouting Horn. If there were some 3-4 foot swells from the south, the horn would spout water 40-60 feet in the air.

At least I did manage to get one set of shots of a good blast for today’s conditions:

Opeaka’a Falls

This is a nice waterfall located on private property, but easily viewed from a public scenic viewpoint right along the highway.  There are several points to get a good photo of the falls.

There is also a good view of the coastline to the east, including what remains of the old royal coconut groves from Hawaiian Royalty:

Kaua’i Adventures Begin…

After finishing up with the Expedia Orientation & Activities gathering and eating breakfast, we walked out to the shoreline for a bit and Marianne played in the Pacific Ocean for a bit:

Kauai Sunrise Photos with my Nikon DSLR

Here are the earlier pictures I took with the Nikon (resized for faster upload) before the clouds cut off the horizon entirely and when the sun was breaking the top of the cloud deck….

Our First Sunrise on Kauai (2013 Edition)

image

We had the beginnings of a beautiful sunrise between the horizon and this cloud deck. Unfortunately, just as the sun was breaking the horizon, so was the cloud deck lower edge, and it blocked out the sun just as it peeked over the horizon.

I did manage some shots with the Nikon DSLR, and will post them at some point.
Sunrise was at 6:01am HST, and it took another 15 minutes or so for the sun to move high enough onto the sky for this shot:

The sun finally broke above the cloud deck about 6:25am:

Here is a sunrise panorama of the Kauai Beach area, just north of Lihue:

Along with a panorama looking into the Kauai Beach Resort from the beach shortly after sunrise:

And another from our lanai that I took about 6:40am:
