Travel Review: May 22, 2013, Part I: Golden Gate National Cemetery

After breakfast at the Embassy Suites in South San Francisco, we headed out for a day of exploring, and our first stop was to check out the Golden Gate National Cemetery.  On the previous seven trips through San Francisco on our way to and from Hawaii, we never got into the cemetery, as we never thought about it until we were in the area for dinner, and the gates were closed.  This time, we made the special effort to get there early. [sc:clickview]

Travel Review: May 21, 2013: Return Flights to San Francisco via Kahului, Maui

We had to get an earlier start this morning than usual on our return to San Francisco from Hawaii.  United Airlines had temporarily discontinued mid-day departures from Kona International Airport direct to San Francisco, so we had to fly from Kona over to Kahului, Maui a couple of hours earlier to catch the United flight from Maui direct to San Francisco. This meant no departure morning breakfast from Island Lava Java.  Instead we grabbed a quick bite from McDonald’s 🙁 [sc:clickview]

Travel Review: May 20, 2013, Part III: Sunset on our Final Full Day in Hawaii

With the setting sun comes the end of our last full day on Hawaii for this trip.  Dinner in Kailua-Kona and packing for our departure in the morning is all that was left for us to do after enjoying the sunset from our balcony.[sc:clickview ]

Our last full day on Hawaii was mostly for relaxing and a little last-minute shopping. We spent some time walking around the Sheraton Kona Resort at Keauhou Bay, and here are the sights:

Travel Review: May 20, 2013, Part I: Morning Sail, Kailua-Kona for Breakfast…

The Polynesian Sailing Canoe was out early this morning, sailing out and then back into Keauhou Bay, as seen from our balcony.  Then we headed to Island Lava Java for our last breakfast for this trip at our favorite Kailua-Kona restaurant. Also a quick visit to the small “St. Peter’s By The Sea Roman Catholic Church” near Kahalu’u Beach Park on Ali’i Drive.
