National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific

Also known as Punchbowl. This is the pacific’s version of Arlington National Cemetery.

The first picture is looking up towards the memorial that lists the names of all servicemen lost in WWII, Korea and Vietnam who’s bodies were never recovered or identified, along with missing in action. Over 25,000 names.

The second is looking back at the entrance of the burial area, and the third is from the overlook towards Waikiki and Diamond Head…

Appropriate License Plate

… for a letterpress printer. Those of you that are letterpress printers will understand, the rest of you: .918 inches is “type high”, the height of type for printing by letterpress! And, it is on our rental car, of all things!!

Good Morning from Turtle Bay

Well, the day is just getting started. Shortly we will be headed down to our inclusive daily breakfast buffet. After that, we will have to see what the day brings… Probably a drive down the east shore then over to Waikiki & Honolulu to check out “tourist town”, which we avoided the last trip…

All Checked into Turtle Bay Resort

We are now all settled into Turtle Bay for the week. I think the rest of the day is for rest and relaxation, as neither of us got much sleep last night (just restless, mostly).

Safely on O’ahu

We landed safely on O’ahu about 1½ hours ago. Got our luggage, rental car and headed out to Turtle Bay. Road construction on the north end of Interstate H-2 caused a detour and we got hungry. So, we stopped at the Dole Plantation for one of their delicious soft-serve pineapple whip cones.

We should be headed back out towards Turtle Bay in the next half hour or so…
