Hawaii Saddle Road…

We drove the Saddle Road passing between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa heading over to Hilo from Kailua-Kona. Unfortunately, we had some foggy and rainy conditions on the downhill side into Hilo. We also got talking about the scenery near the top of the saddle (6800 feet), and forgot to take pictures of the lava fields, etc, that was like living on the moon…

Breakfast Surfing Display…

We ate breakfast at Bubba Gump’s, they only serve breakfasts on weekends, and are only one of a few, if not the only Bubba Gump’s to serve breakfast. We had a nice oceanside table and surfing entertainment during our breakfast. Waves were in the 6-10 foot range…

Another Morning in Paradise…

Another beautiful morning on the Big Island.  We are not sure what we will be doing today, but maybe head down to South Point or over the Saddle Road to Hilo.  But first, we need to get some breakfast 🙂

Almost identical positions, almost identical cloud cover, and very likely about the identical day of the month!!

Waipio Valley…

Pictures from our visit to Waipio Valley in the southeast corner of North Kohola.  The road to the bottom of the valley is one lane gravel, four wheel drive required (no all wheel drives allowed), rides along the cliff edge and is very steep, about a 25% grade. (That’s 25 feet down for every 100 feet forward!!)  After the drive on Maui, we stayed up at the overlook.  There are about 50 native Hawaiian residents in the valley full-time. In 1946, a devastating Tsunami wiped out most of the valley….
