So ends a very busy day on Maui, only one more full day on Maui, as we fly to the Big Island on May 16th…
This sure was a busy day, especially when you consider how it started with the drive down “Maui’s Deadliest Road”. Just two more sections for the day in review, I promise…..
We stopped in downtown Lahaina to take in the expanse of the Banyan Tree Park. This is all one single tree, with multiple trunks and huge, long horizontal branches stretching a hundred feet or more across the park:

Well, this would be the day I decided to drive the Kahekili Highway (Route 340) from Ka’anapali over to Kahului. Marianne was not pleased with the drive, although the sights are dramatic if you can take your eyes off the road while trying to keep on the narrow one-lane highway with two-way traffic.
But, first, we saw the sights along the better parts of the highway on the western edge before it gets narrow:

After the road narrowed, Marianne was too terrified and worried about the driving that I had to do to even think about taking pictures. Therefore, I went to Google Earth’s Street View, and captured a few images of the drive down this section of highway. The yellow line is an overlay on the image of the route traveled by the imaging vehicle.
