Yesterday’s Short Excursion

I was so tired last night I really didn’t feel like making any additional blog entries, but we did make one short trip down the peninsula to the Puglas Water Temple, which is a memorial to those who worked to bring the Hetch Hetchy water supply to the residents of the Bay Peninsula 75 years ago.

The memorial is classic Greek architecture, and when I found it on the web after looking at the area on Google Earth, I just had to come to see it. I just wish it was a nice sunny day like our trip 2 years ago when we passed right by and did not know it was here.

Unfortunately, it was not the best of weather, rainy and wet, but we did walk around a bit to see the area.

Good Morning San Francisco

Ok, the morning is here, and we are hoping for a little better weather today than we had yesterday, but I think it is still going to be a little showery and wet.

We are staying the the Hampton Inn on Gateway Blvd in South San Francisco, right next door to the Embassy Suites where we stayed last time we made this trip (August 2007). The Hampton is not the Embassy Suites, but nearly as nice for half the price, and we don’t have to pay $15 a night for parking.

Today’s plans are to drive down to the Big Bend and Henry Cowell Redwood State Parks in the lower penisula, and then to Santa Cruz and back up the coastal highway to Pacifica and back to the hotel. But, it all depends on the weather….

Safe & Sound in San Francisco

NOTE: All posts prior to this one were set to Eastern Daylight Time. From this post forward until we arrive in Hawaii, posts will be Pacific Daylight Time (EDT-3). Hawaii will be posted to Hawaii Standard Time (EDT-6).

We are now getting settled in for a early night, as it is still before 8pm here, but that is 11pm back home, and our day started at 3:30am. We did a little sightseeing in the SF Bay area today, but the weather was not too great (rainy), so we decided to just check into the hotel, and then went to Red Lobster in San Bruno for an earlier dinner. Got back about an hour ago. I’m sure I will be up early in the morning as I will still be partly on eastern time.

One Day in the Bay Area….

After breakfast and a little relaxing, we headed out to meet Steve at Danger for Lunch. We took a nice leisurely drive down to Danger, avoiding the freeways. Of course, we were a little late for lunch, but who cares, we are on vacation!

After we left Danger, we had to drive around Google one more time. This time we made the complete circumference around the facility. This view is from the south.

This is the main lobby entrance, I think. Somewhere I saw a sign that I think said the main lobby was in building 42.

After driving around Google, we headed back north on regular streets, and
thought about where we wanted to go to dinner, and decided on Olive Garden.
According to the GPS the closest to the hotel was up on the southwest side of
San Francisco. The "fastest" non freeway route took us onto "Skyline Blvd" to
the west of San Bruno and Daly City. There were some fantastic views.

Safely on the ground in San Francisco

We are now in San Francisco (San Bernadino, exactly), sitting down to dinner at Red Lobster. We will check into the hotel after dinner…
