Big Island Tracks, Day 3: May 8, 2015

Our travel track for Friday, May 8, 2015. Continued our exploration above the Waikoloa Resorts, all the way up to Hawi on the North Kohala Coast.  Then back down Kohala Mountain Road to Waimea and across the Hawaii Belt Road back to Kailua Kona.  Along the coast route of lower North Kohala the temperature was 92°F, at 3200 feet altitude on the North Kohala Mountain Road, the temperature was only 74°F. What a difference a few thousand feet make!!

Daily Oahu Travels, Day 6: May 5, 2015

Our Daily Travel Map for Oahu on May 5, 2015.  Today, we drove down the windward coast, make a stop at the post office to ship some things home, stopped in Kaneohe again, then drove over the Pali Highway to Honolulu, made a wrong turn and got rerouted through some of downtown back on to H-1 to head out to the Ko’Olina Resorts on the leeward coast.  Got tied up in traffic between Honolulu and the separation of H-1 and H-2 west of Pearl City/Aiea. Smooth sailing out to see the “new” resorts, then back tracked to the western highway to cross the island to Haleiwa and return to Turtle Bay…  Nice drive except for Honolulu traffic….

Our Travel Track for Monday, May 4, 2015

Monday’s travel tracks from Google’s MY TRACKS app from my phone.  There are a few gaps in the route where the phone GPS was not receiving because of where it was placed in the car (dash storage slot for a garage door opener).  So, just connect the lines along the highways…
Drove down to Honolulu to The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, then over to Aloha Tower Marketplace to find it boarded up and undergoing renovations.  Drove down the shoreline through Waikiki and around the base of Diamond Head.  We drove into Diamond Head, but since it was already 4:30ish, we could not pay a fee and walk around.  From there we drove out to Hawaii Kai and discovered the highway around Makapu’u Point was closed due to a Car/Pedestrian accident, so we did a little shopping and ate dinner at Outback in Hawaii Kai before returning to Turtle Bay up the center of the island…
