Germaine’s Luau – “Too Good to Miss”(R)

After driving around the south side of Diamond Head, we drove straight into early rush hour traffic in Waikiki and Honolulu, and ended up not having enough time to drive up the west shore more than a few miles above the site of Germaine’s Luau on Barber’s Point on the southwest corner of Oahu. We drove up about as far as Nanakuli and turned around and went back to the Luau.

They bill themselves as "Too Good To Miss", and although that may be a little exaggeration on their part, it was a great show. I got almost an hour of video to edit… The $130 price tag for a couple is a little high, but the 25% off Entertainment Book coupon made it much better. They are still the least expensive Luau on Oahu, as far as we could find.

Koko Head Area & Blow Hole

Coming around Makapuu Point, we get into the Koko Head Area, which includes the old volcano crater below and Sandy Beach Park with more nice surf courtesy of Hurricane Flossie.

And just to the west of that is a nice blow hole that spews water into the air from the incoming surf. We hit it at a good time, high tide and fiarly high surf….

Makapu’u Beach

This beach was crowded, even with the high surf advisory this afternoon due to Hurricane Flossie. Even with the high winds and the hurricane off to the southeast, it was a beautiful, bright sunny day on the southeast corner of the island, with nice surf breaking on the rocks and beaches.

Windy on the Pali Lookout…

Sure is a windy day on the Pali Lookout overlooking Kaneohe to the east. I would estimate the winds up here at 40 to 45 mph, enough to almost push me backwards slightly. I really wanted to stitch these three pictures together into a panorama, but my software is crapping out, so I guess I need to reload it when we get back home… I bet this view is even more breathtaking on a bright, clear sunny day.
