Traveling Back Down the East Shore

On our trip back down the east shore this morning, Marianne was able to get some nice shots of the mountains and coastline:

This is the Kaipapua Point area, just south of Laie.

I think this was in the Kahana Bay area.

This is the Kahana Visitor’s Center, near Kaoio Point.

And this one is just south of Kualoa Regional Park.

Waialua Brush Fire Update

The Waialua Brush Fire is still blazing…. Monday morning, they thought the early morning rains beat down the fire and they would get it under control, but that did not happen. According to the radio news, it has burned over 3,000 acres now, and is nowhere near under control. The first picture was taked about 5:30pm on Monday on our way to Waikiki for dinner.

The second picture was taken about 9pm from about the same vantage point, maybe 1/4 mile further away, and really shows the burning. I should take something with our Sony DVD, which has infared capabilities for night use…. Maybe Tuesday night, unless we get heavy rain from Flossie that might put the fire out….

Oahu Rainbows

During our drive down to Waikiki for dinner, we ran through several rain showers, and each one was accompanied by a nice rainbow. Marianne managed to get a couple of them in pictures. The first one is on the inner highlands, near the Dole Plantation, and the second one is in the Aiea, to the west of Honolulu.

Turtle Bay Parrot

There are a pair of parrots on display in the lobby of the Turtle Bay Resort form 9am to 5pm every day. They both sit on a perch in a brass hoop (one hoop for each parrot). When we got down to take the pictures, the red breasted parrot was already put back, so just this one was still on display. He liked to dance back and forth across the perch…

Driving Up the East Shore

eastshore2

We continued our drive up the east shore and back to the Turtle Bay Resort. There was some pretty nice surf building on the east shore as Hurricane Flossie as it is moving closer to the islands. But, it is expected to pass well south of us on Oahu. However, we may have a rainy Tuesday night and Wednesday from outflow from the storm, just have to wait and see what happens….
