Departure in less than a week!!

Well, a week from today will be our one full day in the San Francisco Bay area.  Still deciding on three possibilities for spending our time:

1:  Travel north of the Golden Gate Bridge, explore the area around Muir Woods and Mt. Tamalpais then wander around Sausalito.

2:  Take the long drive south below Monterey, along the Big Surprise coastline as far south as San Simeon/Cambria before turning inland to drive back up Route 101 to return to South San Francisco.

3:  Explore the Tourist Sites in San Francisco proper… After four round trips, we have only been to downtown San Francisco once, in 2013, when we went to dinner with Steve Lipman. If Steve can work out the free time, we are hoping he will play the role of tour guide to hit the tourist sites this trip…

Thoughts, ideas and suggestions appreciated….

  1. I’ve never been North; south along the coast is nice, but when I go back, even though I’ve done all of this, it is my first priority again: ride the cable car, visit China Town, Ghiradelli Square, and Golden Gate Park

  2. Hey Lance and Marianne. First off, enjoy your trip. I’m sure you’ll have a great time. Secondly, while in San Francisco, check out the hotel scene for me. I’m planning an August trip in August with my daughetr and would appreciate your valuable input on “reasonable” accomodations. Thanks.

  3. Steve, We have been to Golden Gate Park, but none of the others, which are on our list if we do the “Downtown San Francisco Touristy Stuff” this trip….

  4. Jim, we have always stayed out by SFO Airport, in South San Francisco. There are many good hotels out there, and the rates are not too bad, but I have noticed significant increases in the past couple years. This year, we traded in Credit Card rewards to cover most of the Hotel and Rental Car costs, so that was great!
Don’t know anything about hotels in the San Francisco proper area, but great public transit makes having a rental car unnecessary unless you want to areas outside of the metro area….
