Well, our vacation is going to get off to a very sad start. As some of you know, our youngest cat, Rocky "the flying squirrel" (a.k.a. "Squirrely), was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer about 6 weeks ago… At first, we thought we might be able to give him several more months of quality life, as initial medication was working much better than expected.
However, the medications have now stopped working as quickly as they started, and he has stopped eating and has taken to hiding and sulking in corners. This is definitely a sign that he is most likely not feeling well at all. The tumor in his abdomen has grown as large as a lemon, increasing about 20% in size over the past week.
After talking to the veterinarian this morning, we all decided there was little to no chance he would survive the duration of our vacation, if even the next few days. Therefore, we will be taking him to the veterinarian in the morning to have him put to sleep so he does not suffer while we are away. It’s the veterinarian’s day off, but he will take care of us in the morning as a special need case, which we are very appreciative for.
Our older cat, Goofy (15+) will certainly miss his "younger brother", but he will also no longer have to worry about being attacked from behind as he goes up the stairs, as Rocky loved to do.

Rocky, we both wish you peace and happiness, and hope that Marianne’s mother will find you to give you a good home in heaven, as we tried to do for you when you wandered into our lives almost seven years ago.

we, too, will miss Rocky.
We know how much you both love him; and what a difficult decision this is to make. Sometimes, you just have to love enough to let go.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the 4 of you: that you will smile when you think of him; and that the happy memories will far outweigh all others.
So sorry to hear about your kitty.
Sorry I’ll miss you guys on the outbound. Maybe on the inbound you can bring me one of those “airport leis”.
Better yet if on Oahu go to Mauna Kea Street in Chinatown for the best (and far cheaper) leis for use as souveniers and presents. Far cheaper than the lei stands at the airports.
I WISH THE HERBAL TEA HAD WORKED SOONER; FOR ROCKY. I KNOW YOUR MOM IS ENJOYING HER NOW,
